THE FRAGMENTED MIND
A field manual to mental resilience and post traumatic growth
(From the backside of the book)
The fragmented mind is a poignant tale of the journey through the author's life, and how mental trauma leaves deep marks on everyday life and family life.
As a family man, he was so mentally broken that he couldn't even tie his own shoelaces.
In the book we follow Christian Nielsen's journey from a childhood in the shadow of abuse, to four years abroad as a scuba diving instructor,
training as a commercial diver in the Navy, a decade as a policeofficer, three tough years with work-related PTSD
and finally six years as a diving technician / commercial diver in the Danish Navy Special Forces ( The Frogman Corps ).
In addition to the life-changing experiences of diving and working as a police officer, we follow the process in society of being diagnosed with severe work-related PTSD.
At the same time, the book is a positive story about the Danish welfare system and the safety net that is stretched out under the entire population.
It is a story about being so mentally broken that every day feels like the last, and still being able to get on with a new life.
The book provides concrete tools to help others turn post-traumatic stress into post-traumatic growth.
One small step at a time.
The book is a reference work on the techniques and methods that helped the author back from hell, as well as aunique insight into what it takes to get well again.
It can be read by anyone who wants to become mentally stronger, but is also for professionals, colleagues, families and social workers who want to understand
what it feels like to live with a fragmented mind.
